Wildfires are causing a dip in new California housing units for the first time since the start of the economic recovery, according to state officials.
State figures show the number of new housing units in the state declined last year due to wildfires that scorched more than 2,000 homes.
In 2015, 67,000 homes were built compared to 69,000 in 2014. The housing hit came as California's population grew to more than 39 million in 2015, a 1% increase.
