The teenager behind an hours-long standoff has been taken into custody. 

Bakersfield police surrounded a home in The Oaks after a young man barricaded himself in a home.

The stand off began at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Valley Forest Court and Canyon Oak, which is just south of The Marketplace off of Ming Avenue. It ended around 12:30 a.m.

The address of the home is at 9604 Valley Forrest Court which is registered to a Summerbreez Youth facility for boys.

Police surrounded the home and were calling for one of the occupants to leave the home. They said several times that they were not leaving until the person held up inside left the home.

Police said that the person held up in the home at one point broke into a nearby car and retrieved a firearm.

Bakersfield police said that the firearm taken from the vehicle belonged to a Kern County Sheriff's Department deputy.

The young teen, who authorities say is a 16-year-old male, who stays at the home, fired one shot and then ran into the home.

One 23ABC viewer said that some of the occupants of the home have caused a lot of problems for his nearby employment and has had to call the Bakersfield Police Department several times as the boys were breaking curfew and shoplifting.

He continued saying that he's had to have meetings with the home management to solve issues with the facility.

At about 10:50 p.m., BPD officials said they believed the teen may be intoxicated and possibly passed out inside the home.
