Local authorities will be holding a free event for parents to have their car seats checked to make sure they are properly installed.

The event will be Saturday, September 29 in the Burlington Coat Factory parking lot off of California Avenue from 9 a.m. to 1p.m.

It's hosted by the Bakersfield Police Department and California Highway Patrol and will have seat technicians on-hand to check the car seats.

No appointment is necessary.

CHP said the most common issue they see with car seats is that they aren't strapped in tight enough.
