Bikers surprise local teen with cancer

Local bikers gathered Sunday afternoon at River Walk Park for a ride. Where they were headed was a surprise.

The group of nearly 100 riders rode to the house of Ben Martinez, a Bakersfield teen who suffers from alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive cancer that usually starts in the torso, arms and legs.

The bikers provided Ben with gifts, including a personalized vest with the biker name Giant Slayer.

They also took Ben for a ride around Bakersfield and, after the ride, Ben reflected on being leader of a motorcycle club.

"It felt great. I like to feel the wind. And we scared some other guy. Nothing better. It felt great."
