BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A local doctor has had their license placed on probation by the State Medical Board for five years and has been ordered to stay away from alcohol and controlled substances, officials said.

Dr. Shannon Smith, who reportedly has an office with Kaiser Permanente has been placed on probation stemming from an unknown incident from last year.

According to documents from the medical board, Smith must not use products or beverages containing alcohol and must also abstain from the use of controlled substances.

Documents also say Smith must undergo an evaluation within 30 days of her suspension which will determine whether Smith has a substance abuse problem and is in need of treatment.

During her probation, she will reportedly be subjected to random drug and alcohol testing and must attend substance abuse meetings.

We reached out to Kaiser for comment and they tell 23ABC that Smith is currently not on their active roster.
