Local family outraged after neighbor shoots their dog with a BB gun

A Bakersfield family outraged after one of their neighbors shot their dog with a BB gun.

Tuesday night, Taylor Manasan was playing in her friend's backyard when the family dog, Jaxson, wandered into a neighbor's yard.

She says she noticed Jaxson was gone and began looking for him.

Moments later she found her two year miniature poodle bleeding from a single pellet shot.

Jax was rushed to the veterinary hospital.

Taylor mother, Sarah Fraze, says the pellet barely missed his pelvic bone and spinal cord. Luckily, the vet was able to remove the pellet.

"He was extremely lucky," said Fraze

Bakersfield police tell 23ABC that they did respond the incident. Officer's confiscated the man's pellet gun but did not arrest him.

While they are thankful that Jaxson is okay, Fraze say that her neighbor's actions are unjustified.

"Unfortunately since I don't have an eyewitness. I couldn't get justice that night so I'm reaching out to everybody to get the word out, to press this DA. This can't be tolerated. This is injustice, this is animal cruelty. We need to have a law enforced and we need to do it fast," said Fraze.

23ABC spoke to the man who shot Jax. He says that he is an animal lover and a cat owner as well. He says that he has grown frustrated with neighborhood pets wandering onto his property. He added that it was not his intention to harm Jaxson but to instead scare him away.
