BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A local Bakersfield businessman said he saw the homeless population growing and wanted to do something to help. He decided he could organize a barbecue lunch for those who live at Bakersfield's Homeless Center.

Saturday Larry Koman hosted his first annual Larry Koman’s Bakersfield Homeless Center BBQ. He, with the help of a couple of other local businesses and volunteer, plans to serve tri-tip steaks, hot dogs, mac and cheese, bbq beans and salad for up to 350 residents of the homeless center and other homeless people.

Koman said many of the people who live at the Bakersfield Homeless Center are women and children who due to an unfortunate situation became residents of the center. And he feels like a bbq steak lunch with games and music would be a fun way to add joy into the lives of some of his neighbors.

Koman asks if the community would like to help him to donate either money, equipment or time so he can host another bbq lunch next year. Or you can also donate money or shoes to Guarantee Shoe Center on Chester Avenue downtown.

The other businesses helping Koman are Insurica and Temblor Brewery.
