BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Bakersfield medical device manufacturer, Townsend Design/Thuasne USA is stepping up the effort to help local providers suffering from elastic chafing from face masks.

Using open source design and 3D printing technology, Thuasne USA is producing “Surgical Mask Relievers” to help protect the ear.

“This is an opportunity for us to use the technology we have on hand to make a difference.” says VP of Marketing/R&D, John Martin. “We know our healthcare workers are in need of some relief and every little bit helps.”

The Surgical Mask Relievers are produced on Thuasne USA’s 3D printer, made of plastic, reusable and easy to clean. Each servical mask can last several weeks at a time.

“We are a Class 1 medical device manufacturer and remain open during this challenging time. The health and safety of our employees is our top priority and these Relievers are making a difference here. It’s time to get them in the hands of medical professionals.” says Martin.

Thuasne USA can produce approximately 400 Surgical Mask Relievers a week, they are being distributed for free among nurses and other medical professionals.

“It started with the wife of an employee who is a Registered Nurse at Memorial Hospital. Their teenage children are helping to prep the devices for use and are distributing them to mom who is making them available to co-workers. Where there is a need, we will try to fill it. It’s our way of saying thank you to those on the front lines, fighting this deadly illness.”
