Local high schoolers attend Reagan funeral

Friday morning Navy Sea Cadets from Frontier High School escorted guests into the Reagan Library for former First Lady Nancy Reagan.

Kobie Budak said this was the experience of a lifetime, and he was proud to represent Bakersfield and his hometown high school at this historic event.

Budak has been in the Cadet program for four years and recruited two friends to join as well. Those two friends Ethan Young and Ben Watts, were also escorting celebrities and enjoying the opportunity.

"It takes you to awe, it's eye opening. Just to do this kind of stuff is a privilege," Watts said.

The young men said their families were ecstatic when they found out about this opportunity. The cadets started early, arriving at the Reagan Library at 6 a.m. and setting up just before 7 a.m. They stood at attention wating for guests to start arriving around 8 a.m.

Guests and dignitaries, including Hillary Clinton, George and Laura Bush, and First Lady Michelle Obama were in attendance.

The cadets said they were thankful for the opportunity and hope they made Bakersfield proud,
