Local physiatrist certificate reprimanded after refilling patient's opioid prescriptions following overdose

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — According to the Medical Board of California, a local physiatrist's physician and surgeon's certificate has been publicly reprimanded "for gross and repeated negligence."

Documents say in 2013, Jay Hai Yoo, M.D., refilled one of his patients opioid prescription after knowing that the patient had recently overdosed. Dr. Yoo also prescribed controlled substance for two other patients he managed for chronic pain, according to documents.

The board issued Dr. Yoo a public reprimand, effective Friday, August 16, at 5 p.m.

He is ordered to enroll in a course in prescribing practices approved by the board within 60 calendar days of the decision.
