Local schools follow national guildelines on outdoor activity during storms

Posted
and last updated

With the storms coming in to Kern County this weekend, the Kern High School District follows the guidelines the National Federation of High Schools set for storms and outdoor activities for students.

If there is lighting, fields of play will be evacuated and play won’t resume until 30 minutes after the last lightning strike is seen or thunder is heard.

In the event of rain, Athletic Directors at the schools are in charge of making decisions whether or not to cancel of postpone activities.

Notifications are usually sent through Twitter, school announcements, or text.
