BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A special ceremony in Northwest Bakersfield is happening Monday morning to honor a local veteran.
Jim Gloeckler of Bakersfield is receiving a medal of honor from the French Legion of Honor. It recognizes soldiers who were in Normandy during WWII.
The deputy consul was there for the presentation.
Gloeckler spent more than 90 years of his life in Shafter. He was drafted in World War II out of high school at the age of 17. He also has a silver star and two purple hearts.
