Local teen uses art to make political statement

Even those who aren't even old enough vote yet feel a deep sense of anger and sadness when watching Donald trump's speech.

April Camacho is just 15-years-old and she says the things Trump has said during his presidential campaign about her culture are hurtful.

She’s one of many Mexican Americans watching the presidential candidate closely, as he traveled to Mexico to meet president Enrique Peña Nieto and then speaking about immigration in Arizona.

Camacho is an artist. She recently used a drawing to express her love of both countries. She drew Mexico as a heart with arteries that bleed into the United States.

During his speech on Wednesday, Trump outlined his plan to control illegal immigration. He promised sensors to detect immigrants and tunnels, hiring 5,000 more border patrol agents and  building a wall he says Mexico will pay for.

Camacho couldn’t sit through the entire speech because she was shocked by what trump was saying.

Her artwork will be displayed starting Friday at Metro Galleries as part of an exhibit called Latination.
