BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Several local disabled veterans are taking a new approach to healing and transitioning into civilian life.
On Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lakeside Elementary School, a group of six disabled veterans are taking part in scuba training by Aqua-Nut Divers instructors as part of its charity project— Veterans Empowered through Scuba.
After a few classroom sessions and some pool and open water training dives, they will be certified as open water scuba divers and/or advanced divers.
“Having the opportunity to breathe and explore underwater is amazing. While diving you get to escape the stress of the rest of the world,” states Andy Selga, a disabled veteran in this year’s training.
