Local veterans are turning to the skies to help them return to civilian life after their tours of duty.

The nonprofit organization Comrades and Canopies met at Skydive Taft for the first time Saturday, taking a skydiving class with the hopes that they will one day be the first all-veteran skydiving team in Bakersfield.

Chad Garcia, one of the five members of the group, says they believe exposing veterans to an activity filled with adrenaline will help them as they transition back to civilian life.
