Local World War II veteran passes away at the age of 101

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A local World War II veteran has passed away days after his 101st birthday.

Leonard Francis served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. According to Honor Flight Kern County, he passed away peacefully in his sleep days after turning 101.

Services will be held for Francis on Wednesay, January 9th. A rosary service will be held at 9:30 a.m. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. at Christ The King Church, located at 1800 Bedford Way in Oildale. He will be buried with military honors at a service at 1 p.m. at Bakersfield National Cemetery, located at 30338 E Bear Mountain Boulevard in Arvin.
