A Los Angeles County sheriff's sergeant is in critical condition after crashing in Compton during a stolen car chase early Monday morning.

Around 5:30 a.m., authorities rushed the sergeant to St. Francis Medical Center after the crash occurred at Alameda and Myrrh streets. It was unclear when the car chase started or how the crash happened.

Authorities said weather conditions on the roads and speed allowed the suspect to get away following the sergeant's crash.
