Macy's plans on closing 100 of its 675 stores nationwide, the company announced Thursday as part of their effort to increase online shopping.

The exact locations have not been announced, but most of the stores will close early 2017.

Bakersfield has one Macy's location at the Valley Plaza Mall. The future of the store is unknown at this time, according to one of the company's media representatives:

"We have not yet finalized decisions on stores to be closed. We are currently in the process of analyzing the situation of each store so we can make these important decisions as intelligently as possible."
