UPDATE (May 5, 2017 4:36 p.m.): On May 5, 2017 the pedestrian involved in the collision died while at a local hospital. His identity will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
The investigation is ongoing.

A major injury accident was reported near Union Avenue and California Avenue in Downtown Bakersfield Friday morning.
The vehicle versus pedestrian collision happened around 7:45 a.m.
A vehicle driven by an adult female was traveling northbound on Union Avenue, when an adult male pedestrian entered the roadway outside of the cross walk, and was struck by the vehicle.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor for the driver of the vehicle.
