Union Avenue Southbound was shut down at 18th Street at 2:30 p.m., after a truck and man collided, according to Bakersfield Police.
The small truck, which was towing what looked like a gardening trailer, was driving in the number one lane on Union, when it collided with the man.
A young man said he was riding his bike home from work down Union Avenue when he heard a big boom, he turned around and said he saw a man mid-air, with his shoes on the street and his baseball cap on the median.
"I was about to cross, I was waiting for the light to turn and I just heard a really loud bang from the cage of the truck and I didn't really see exactly what happened, but I saw him flip, you know mid-air." Tim Garcia said.
It is unclear if the man was in the crosswalk, according to police.
A 23ABC reporter said there was a lot of blood, some coming from the man's head.
Officers on scene said the man was transported to a local area hospital and that he has moderate to major injuries.
Union Avenue reopened at 3:29 p.m. according to BPD Sergeant Gary Carruesco.
