Man arrested after gunshot activates ShotSpotter in Central Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A man was arrested after firing a gunshot in Central Bakersfield early Thursday morning, authorities said.

Bakersfield police responded at 1:36 a.m. to a ShotSpotter activation in the 10 block of N Street. When officers arrived, they located two people in the area and a .22 rifle nearby, police stated.

No shooting victim was located. The investigation revealed that Angel Quair Jr., 19, fired a single round into a nearby canal area, officials said.

Quair was arrested and booked into the Kern County Jail on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm.
