Tehachapi PD arrest man after he escaped

Posted

At approximately 8:20 am today, the Tehachapi Police Department served an arrest warrant in the 200 Block of West Valley Boulevard.

Raul Gonzales 20, of Tehachapi, was taken into custody for his involvement in a recent residential burglary in the City of Tehachapi.

Gonzales was transported to the Tehachapi Police Department for booking and was handcuffed in the rear seat of a patrol car in the rear parking lot of the station.

Gonzales was apparently able to slip his cuffs to the front of his body and somehow lowered the rear window and opened the back door to the vehicle.

Gonzales escaped from the vehicle and ran through the parking lot where he jumped onto the top of a vehicle and over the rear wall into neighboring yards.

A containment of the neighborhood was immediately established with the assistance of the Kern County Sheriff’s Department and the Stallion Springs Police Department.

After an extensive yard to yard search of the area, Gonzales was not located.

Officers continued to saturate the neighborhood searching for Gonzales.

At approximately 12:10 pm, a citizen observed Gonzales in the 700 Block of Carroll Way.

A containment was immediately established and Gonzales was found hiding beneath a trailer.

He was taken into custody and transported to Kern County Jail where he will be booked for residential burglary, escape, and resisting arrest.
