BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A man is behind bars after he allegedly stabbed an officer with a screwdriver Saturday afternoon.

According to Bakersfield police, officers responded to a call for service at Adventist Hospital on Chester Avenue. Officers spoke with a man -- later identified as William Blystone -- who was causing a disturbance.

Blystone took out a screwdriver and stabbed an officer in the face, police said.

The man was subdued by officers and bystanders, and later arrested and booked on attempted homicide charges. The officer was treated for minor injuries.
