Posted

A man was arrested Friday morning after trying to force his way onto a school bus in Oildale.

At about 7:10 a.m., the Kern County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Beardsley School District that a school bus with two children on board, ages 7 and 14, was in the 300 block of Beardsley Avenue and there was a man attempting to enter the bus.

While deputies were en route, the man made several attempts to enter the bus through the main door as well as an emergency door, officials said.

During this time, the man vandalized the school bus, officials said.

Deputies said they found 29-year-old Ian Hollis near the school bus and detained him.

Deputies said that Hollis was under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

During the investigation, deputies learned the bus driver had taken several precautionary steps to ensure the safety of the children.

No one was injured during the incident. There is no indication that Hollis was related to anyone onboard the bus.

Hollis was arrested and booked into the Sheriff’s Office Central Receiving Facility on charges of child endangerment, vandalism and unlawful entry to a school bus.
