ON DECEMBER 31, at approximately 9:40 p.m. — On December 31, at approximately 9:40 p.m., a shot spotter activation was reported in the area of Monterey and Robinson streets. When officer's arrived the suspect fled on foot.
According to police, witnesses said that the suspect, identified as Thomas Anaya Romero, was seen pointing a possible firearm at officers while running away. Officers said that they saw Romero toss the gun in a front yard. The gun was later recovered on Monterey Street.
Romero was taken into custody a short time later. Officer's have issued a warrant to get the DNA of the suspect to test it against evidence at the scene.
Romero is facing two charges of assault with a semi-automatic firearm on a peace officer, a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm, a charge of having ammunition and resisting arrest.
Romero is scheduled to be in court on January 15.
