BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The man arrested in the murder of Jose Arredondo was an "acquaintance" of the well-known businessman, according to a statement released by the family's attorney on Tuesday.
In the statement, attorney David Torres, said that the family was told by Cabo San Lucas officials that the suspect Roberto Gonzalez was arrested in the investigation.
On Monday, the state’s Attorney General’s Office said that a man it identified as 50-year-old Roberto “N” originally from Mexico’s Hidalgo state had been arrested for the killing of Arredondo. The suspect had been reported missing by his family.
Mexican authorities also said Arredondo’s body showed signs of blunt force trauma.
The family's statement read that they've also "been informed there are freelance journalists who have dispatched to Cabo San Lucas and are providing the media with inaccurate information."
The Arredondo family said it is focusing on Jose's legacy by continuing to operate his businesses and philanthropy efforts.
