Standoff in South Bakersfield over, man taken into custody

UPDATE (5:45 a.m.): A man is in custody after an hours-long standoff in South Bakersfield.

Bakersfield Police have taken a man, identified as John Tith, into custody. 

Police say he allegedly held a person against their will in a home on Olivia Court off Pacheco Road around 9:30 Sunday night. 

Police say he was armed with "edged weapons" and at one point threw items at officers. It's not known what was thrown.

Police and SWAT were able to extricate the person who was being held in the home. 

Around 5 a.m., police were able to take Tith into custody. 

He now faces multiple charges including criminal threats and assault with a deadly weapon on an officer.

The Bakersfield Police Department is working to get a man out of a home after he barricaded himself inside late Sunday night.

According to Bakersfield Police, officers were called out to a home in the area of Pacheco Road just off Monitor Street, across from Greenfield Junior High. 

Police say they received calls that a man was threatening his family in their home. Police say he barricaded himself in the house with a knife, but no one else was inside. 

Police say he had a previous warrant for his arrest. The man has not been identified and it's not known what the warrant was for. 

Bakersfield Police have evacuated homes in the area.
