Kern County Sheriff's Officers found 55-year-old Nick Cepeda dead on Country Club Drive near Pinehurst Drive Wednesday night.

Officers responded to a call around 11:45 p.m.

They initially began a homicide investigation before determining Cepeda was riding a beach cruiser bicycle on Country Club Drive when he crashed into a sidewalk, hitting his head. According to officials, Cepeda was riding his bike at an undetermined speed before making an unsafe turn and colliding into the sidewalk. 

California Highway Patrol is now investigating to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in his death. They say Cepeda was not wearing a helmet and his bike did not have lighting.
