A man in Oildale discovered a dead bear early Monday morning when he noticed a foul smell blowing into his business a few hundred yards away.
The bear was about 200 pounds, decomposing and covered in flies. He called several local agencies to get the bear removed but no one came out until Tuesday afternoon.
The Department of Fish and Wildlife said they found evidence at the scene and are following several leads to find the people responsible.
Officials say this dump was illegal because the bear had no hunting tags and it is considered a waste of game.
The person responsible could be charged with multiple misdemeanors and face a fine of up to $1,000 and up to a year in jail.
