Around 4:00 a.m. this morning the Kern County Fire Department responded to a call of a vehicle inside the canal on the 6900 block of Cork Hill Court.
When officials arrived on scene, they discovered 22-year-old Emmanuel Huizar had driven his car into the canal. A bystander helped Huizar get out of his vehicle and safely to land.
Huizar was taken into custody and to the hospital to be evaluated. He is charged for with driving under the influence, resisting arrest and reporting a false emergency.
Officials say he told Bakersfield Police his kids were also in the vehicle, although no one else was in the car.
