BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A man was hospitalized after getting hit by a big rig early Thursday morning.
According to CHP, the man was traveling southbound on the I-5, when he crashed onto the shoulder of the road, a mile north of Rowlee Road, at 12:15 a.m.
Witnesses say he was driving at 90 miles per hour.
CHP says the vehicle went off to the side, the man then got out of his car, walked towards the center median and as he continued towards the shoulder of the highway was struck by a semi-truck at 12:24 a.m.
The man suffered a head injury, but it is unclear which crash caused it, according to CHP.
Officers say he also suffered blunt force trauma to his body.
It does not appear drugs or alcohol was a factor in either crash.
But CHP says speed was a factor in the initial crash.
