UPDATE (Oct. 10, 2016, 2:07 p.m.): 70-year-old Victor Estrada Luna was hit and killed while crossing the walkway of California Avenue and Baker Street on the morning of Friday, October 7, 2016.

Cause and manner of death are still under investigation.

A man in a wheelchair died after being hit by a light colored pickup truck or SUV. Police say the victim was in the crosswalk when the accident happened and the driver of that vehicle kept going.

Despite being the scene for a number of dangerous accidents, Bakersfield resident Joy Leon says this is the norm in this area.

"I just think they don’t care, they just walk while it says don’t walk. They don’t have any fear,” said Joy Leon.
