The California Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that happened in the Buttonwillow area Thursday night around 10:45 p.m.

CHP says a vehicle was reported driving reckless with multiple near miss collisions, westbound Highway 46, just west of Interstate 5.

Approximately one minute later a head-on crash was reported between a pickup and an eastbound Semi-Truck Tractor combination.

37-year-old Jorge Serna was driving a 2003 GMC westbound on Highway 46, east of Lost Hills Road when it drifted into the eastbound lane of Highway 46 and collided head-on with a 2009 Freightliner, driven by Francisco Nunez.

Mitchell Goddardstone was driving a 2010 Kia and was struck by the GMC after the original crash, causing damage to the left rim which resulted in a tire deflation.

Serna was air lifted to Kern Medical with major injuries.

Subsequent investigation revealed Serna to be under the influence of alcohol.

CHP says the investigation is ongoing.
