The Bakersfield Police Department arrested a man early Monday afternoon after he ran across Highway 99 near Wible Road.

BPD said they tried to engage the suspicious person on the embankment along the freeway. The man ran across all lanes before officers were able to negotiate with him to come back to the embankment.

The man then pulled out a knife and after engaging in a short stand-off with officers, BPD used a small beanbag launcher to disarm the man and take him into custody.

BPD says the investigation is ongoing and the man will undergo a psychological evaluation.
