Man responsible for largest fraud scheme in Western District of Washington escapes prison

A man responsible for the largest fraud scheme ever prosecuted in the Western District of Washington has escaped a prison facility in Atwater, Calif.

U.S. Marshals are asking Calif., Oregon, and Washington for help in locating Frederick Darren Berg, 55, who escaped from a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility on Wednesday.

Berg is described as a white male, six feet tall, 170 lbs, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison in 2012 for wire fraud, money laundering and bankruptcy fraud.

He has over 10 years left of his sentence.
