Man shot in the face in Southeast Bakersfield in possible drive-by shooting

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A man was shot in the face in Southeast Bakersfield Sunday evening, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

The man told police he was walking his horse in the 600 block of Nina Street, when a vehicle drove near him and opened fire at about 9 p.m.

According to BPD, the man immediately got in his vehicle and was on his way to Kern Medical Center when units observed the vehicle driving recklessly near East 19th Street and Truxtun Avenue. It is unclear whether another person was driving the vehicle.

A pursuit ensued and ended at KMC, where officers learned that the man was a victim of a shooting. Units observed bullet holes on the man's vehicle.

Police also located a horse with multiple gunshot wounds near the scene of the incident.

The man is expected to survive.
