On 04/24/2016, at approximately 2213 hours, an MPD officer on routine patrol conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle for vehicle code violations.

The officer contacted the driver of the vehicle, identified as 42 year-old Miguel Rodriguez of Escondido, California.

The officer saw several opened beer cans inside the vehicle. Miguel displayed objective signs and symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol.

After an investigation, Miguel was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Officers conducted a search of the vehicle prior to it being towed per V.C. 22651(h)(1). An MPD Police K-9, K-9 “Otis” searched the exterior of the vehicle and alerted to the spare tire. Officers removed the tire and located just over 22.5 pounds of Methamphetamine inside the tire.
