The McFarland Unified School District will help families across the city needing internet access by installing antennas and fiber optic cables to increase access city-wide.

The district unanimously approved the project in September, providing "a stronger, more reliable signal than WiFi to district students."

According to a press release from the district, nearly 3,000 students will be provided with internet access at no cost. The district says 80% of its student body will receive internet access through the new lines.

Upon completion, over 80% of McFarland USD students, nearly 3000, will have District provided internet service, at no cost. Expected completion date is December 31, 2020.

“The children are the foundation of our community and we are proud to partner with the school district. United together for a stronger academic community,” said Mayor Sally Tafoya in the press release.
