Last July the late country music star joined his sister Lillian in watching the boxcar moved from Oildale to Pioneer Village in Central Bakersfield.
Crews have been renovating the home ever since. While Merle died in April, Lillian still comes to visit the boxcar.
The Kern County Museum's CEO said they're working to renovate it back to how it looked in the 1940’s.
Organizers are hoping to have the boxcar fully renovated by next April, which would have been Merle's 80th birthday.
