A museum to honor the legacy of country music star Merle Haggard is in the works for downtown Nashville.

Founders of Icon Entertainment Group Shannon and Bill Miller worked with the late icon's family to acquire outfits, musical instruments and other possessions of the singer.

The museum honoring Haggard, who passed away on his 79th birthday on April 6, 2016, is said to feature interactive exhibits and will be right next to Johnny Cash's. Merle's Meat + 3 Saloon, a Haggard-themed restaurant and bar  will also be located in the venue featuring Southern food.

The opening of the museum was announced as Haggard's third chart-topping single, "Sing Me Back Home" turned 50 years old.

Doors for the museum and Merle's Meat +3 Saloon are scheduled to open in the summer of 2018.
