Missile test conducted by Air Force days after North Korea launched second missile in a month

Night owls in Kern County may have seen a flash of light in the sky early Wednesday morning due to the Vandenberg Air Force Base test missile launch.

This was the fourth test conducted at Vandenberg this year. The most recent happened in May.

At around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning, Unarmed Minuteman III was launched by the Global Strike command team to test effectiveness, accuracy and readiness.

On Friday, North Korea launched a missile that is believed to be capable of reaching the U.S., making it their second missile launch in less than a month.

The Air Force, however, said the missile launch was scheduled years in advanced and was not held in response to what is happening with North Korea.

23ABC could not confirm where the missile was headed, but the Marshall Islands, which are 4200 miles away and just passed Hawaii, has been a spot where they have traveled to earlier this year.
