Vandenberg Air Force Base is set to conduct a missile test early Wednesday morning.

According to the base's 30th Space Wing team, an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile will be launched between 12:01 and 6:01 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the Air Force, the Global Strike Command's missile launch is designed to test the weapon system's effectiveness, accuracy and readiness.

Wednesday's test along the California coast comes less than a week after North Korea launched a rocket into the Sea of Japan.
