MOJAVE, Calif. — A 31-year-old mother suspected of attempting to murder her 6-month-old infant, has been arrested in the Mojave Saturday morning, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Office.

At about 6:13 a.m., KCSO deputies were dispatched to the Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, when they received reports of a 6-month-old suffering from 2nd and 3rd degree burns.

Deputies spoke to the father of the infant at the hospital, then questioned the mother, Meghan Van Arsdale, who was at her residence in the 15000 block of Melva Street in Mojave, according to KCSO Lieutenant Cesar Ollague.

Arsdale made "incriminating statements" and was arrested for attempted murder and child related abuse charges, Ollague said.

The father was not arrested, but the couple's three children were taken into Child Protective Services' custody.

The 6-month-old infant was transported to a burn center in West Hills.

The investigation is ongoing.
