BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The mother of a 2-year-old boy, who officials said was kidnapped from his home in Oildale, spoke to 23ABC Thursday morning just moments after learning her son was found safely.

Samantha Trimble thanked the community as well as the Kern County Sheriff's Office. "They (KCSO) really surprised me. They were here all night long," Trimble said.

37-year-old Eric Truman was arrested around 11 a.m. in the 800 block of Roberts Lane, the Kern County Sheriff's Office said.

Truman took 2-year-old Jace Pletcher from his home on Rainbow Court in Oildale around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to KCSO.

The child was taken to the hospital to be checked by medical staff and will be reunited with his mother, officials said.

According to Pletcher's sister, Truman is a long time friend of the father and not related to him as KCSO had previously reported.

Truman is a known transient, and KCSO had searched areas he has been known to frequent including abandoned homes and homeless encampments, officials said.
