BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — UPDATE: CHP units open all lanes on southbound Interstate-5 following a deadly motorcycle collision. Traffic backed up on the Grapevine, north of Lebec.

A motorcyclist has died after colliding into the rear of semi-truck traveling in the southbound lanes of the Grapevine Saturday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred on the I-5 north of Lebec at about 6:51 p.m. Traffic is being diverted off to Grapevine Road, according to the CHP website.

A large group of bikers who were riding with the victim are now gathered at a Shell gas station in the area, the CHP website shows.

CHP units are on scene investigating.
