Officials with the Bakersfield Police Department said that a motorcyclist was killed in a traffic collision with a driver of a another vehicle on District Blvd on Saturday night.
BPD officials said that at around 8:25 pm, their officers were dispatched to District Boulevard and Ashe Road in regards to a vehicle versus motorcycle collision.
BPD's investigation determined a 26 year old male subject was riding a motorcycle westbound in the 6300 block of District Boulevard.
According to BPD, a 2015 Kia Soul entered the roadway exiting out of a private driveway to continue east on District Boulevard directly in the path of the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist struck the driver’s side of the vehicle and the solo rider was ejected.
The driver of the Kia Soul immediately pulled over to check on the ejected rider.
By witness statements and preliminary investigation it was revealed that a possible cross-over style vehicle or SUV was eastbound District Boulevard and may have struck the ejected rider just after the collision.
The vehicle continued east on District Boulevard without stopping.
The ejected motorcyclist received fatal injuries and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The identity of the motorcyclist is pending notification by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
