A motorcyclist has died after suffering major head injures after hitting a car on Olive Drive in Oildale.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the accident Friday around noon. Sgt. Kelly Olson said the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Olive Drive when a four-door Lexus turned in front of the motorcyclist into the shopping center. Sgt. Olson said the motorcyclist was riding a Harley Davidson and was taken to Kern Medical Center with major head injures, while the driver of the Lexus is said to be uninjured. Around 3:30 p.m. 23 ABC received an update from CHP that the motorcyclist had died from his injures. Officers have not released the name of the motorcyclist.

Sgt. Olson said originally officers received calls that it was a hit-and-run, but said there was no evidence of another car being involved besides the Lexus and motorcycle. He also said they found a motorcycle helmet at the scene and believe the motorcyclist was wearing it at the time of the crash.

The accident is still currently under investigation. At this time Sgt. Olson said they don't know what the cause of the accident is, but recommends for drivers to look extra for motorcyclists on the roadways.
