Stallion Springs Police have tips for handling a mountain lion encounter after one was spotted Monday night.
Police said a large mountain lion was seen on Dec. 4 near Stallion Springs and Bold Venture Drives near Woodward West.

Officials said while seeing a mountain lion may be a thrilling encounter, the wild animals should be treated with respect.

If you happen to see a mountain lion, respect its position and space.
California Department of Fish and Wildlife offer some suggestions if you encounter a mountain lion, such as keeping a watch on small children and not approaching it:
- If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms; throw rocks or other objects.
- If attacked, fight back.
- If a mountain lion attacks a person, immediately call 911.
