The National Weather Service office in Hanford has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Kern County mountains for Thursday.
The warning is in effect from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. due to gusty winds and low humidity.
NWS expects winds from the east to reach between 15 and 25 miles per hour with gusts up to 40 miles per hour.
In their alert, NWS states, "Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended."
The alert goes on to state, "A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior."
