BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Board of Directors for Flood Bakersfield Ministries has announced the appointment of Jim Wheeler as the new Executive Director for the organization.

" I am very pleased that Jim will be joining Flood Bakersfield," Karen Tjepkema, President of Flood Board of Directors said. "Jim's wealth of experience with homelessness and in our community will help us continue our vision of ending chronic homelessness in Kern County. Jim brings the leadership needed to carry on our efforts in the community to address the issues of homelessness. We look forward to working with him as we strive to make a difference in the lives of those who are experiencing homelessness."

Wheeler comes to Flood Bakersfield after serving as the Continuum of Care Manager for Orange County.

In that position, he worked with the public and private sector to address homelessness in Orange County and led a project that included the clearing of a 700 person encampment on the Santa Ana Riverbed.

"I am honored and thankful that the Board of Directors for Flood Bakersfield has given me this opportunity to serve the organization and community," Wheeler said. " I respect the mission of Flood and believe that providing services designed to meet the physical, relational and spiritual needs for those who are deeply impoverished in our community is a noble cause. I look forward to working with Flood staff and making a difference in Kern County."
